Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)

Equality, Diversity and inclusion are often referred to at the same time,  however they are distinct concepts  with some overlap.

Equality  involves the provision of equal access to workplace opportunities. It involves removing the barriers which prevent some people accessing opportunities as easily as others.

Diversity focuses on recognising and valuing the positive aspects of differences.

Inclusion enables employees to feel a sense of belonging, knowing they are valued for their unique contribution.

The business case for good Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) practice in the workplace is compelling. Employing and engaging with people who have a range of different backgrounds, experiences and ideas increases creativity and leads to better problems solving and decision-making. Put simply, fairer organisations perform better so a focus on EDI should be central to any People Strategy.

You can find a range of resources to support your school including guidance on developing an EDI strategy as part of an overarching People Strategy in the Equality Diversity & Inclusion section of the website.
