Update - Industrial Action on Teachers' Pay 2023/4

3rd August 2023

England’s largest teaching union the NEU has voted overwhelmingly to accept the government’s 6.5% pay award for all teachers and leaders and end strike action. 86% of the eligible NEU members who took part in a ballot on the pay award voted to back the offer.

Teacher members of the NASUWT teaching union have also  voted to accept the award from September 2023. NASUWT’s results show that 77.6% of members who took part in a ballot on the pay deal  voted to back the offer. However the union’s general secretary has said that schools in England will be taking action “up to and including industrial action, to tackle excessive workload and working hours” so further strike action has not been ruled out.
